Professional Biography
Dr. Nichols specializes in total joint replacement of the hip, knee and shoulder. He received his medical degree from the University of Maryland, completed surgery and orthopaedic surgery residencies at Yale-New Haven Hospital and served as Clinical Instructor in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. Dr. Nichols is a past Section Chief of the Department of Orthopaedics at Indian River Medical Center. Since being at IRMC he has done over 5,000 total hip replacements and 5,000 total knee replacements. He has, over the past 15 years, been a consultant surgeon for one of the world's largest implant companies.
Personal Biography
Dr. Nichols is very proud of his family. He has a son with a PhD in Counseling Psychology and his daughter-in-law is finishing her PhD in Epidemiology at Johns Hopkins. His daughter graduated from Cornell University and is seeking her Masters in Fine Art. In his free time, Dr. Nichols enjoys the outdoors. He is a former collegiate tennis player and former top 10 ranked player in the state of Florida. He has completed a marathon in all 50 of the United States and is finishing completing a marathon on every continent. He has also completed seven Ironman competitions, including one on every continent except Antarctica. Dr. Nichols has spent his entire professional career caring for patients of Indian River County and surrounding counties.
