MS is characterized by inflammation and destruction of myelin, a fatty sheath that surrounds and insulates nerve fibers. As loss of myelin occurs and lesions form, nerve impulses are slowed or halted, producing the symptoms. Because it affects the central nervous system, MS often takes an
